Dearest Flu Vaccine,
Getting you wasn’t fun. It really hurts you know. Even after a day the spot was sore and no one likes needles anyhow.
Now, I’m not asking for much. For the R50 that I paid the kind lady at the Pharmacy and for the suffering of having my delicate skin punctured by the piercing needle can you please just do what you claim you do to protect me.
Last year, I did not get any flu which was great and I’m grateful for having been immunized. I had a demanding 2011 and couldn’t fit in having a few days off to get better. So I put all my faith in you and got another one this year and I believe that everyone who says flu vaccines just make you ill are wrong, because I’m still waiting to get ill like “they” said I would get if I got a vaccine.
So, yes I’m a loyal fan.
So please, pretty please protect me and all of us wise folk who went out to get you, protect us from this year’s seasonal flu and H1N1 virus so that we can make an unbroken contribution to the lives of our friends, colleagues, employers, family and to ourselves by being on our feet, always productive and ready to face the day every day.
Amen,

The “flu shot” — an inactivated vaccine (containing killed virus) that is given with a needle, usually in the arm. The flu shot is approved for use in people older than 6 months, including healthy people and people with chronic medical conditions.
