SHOULD ONE STAY HOME FROM WORK WHEN YOU ARE SICK?I am inclined to say YES for the following reasons:
- You are less productive
- Your recovery takes much longer
- You can infect your colleagues
- It's certainly not pleasant
Why am I here then?
Well I think simply because I am considerate and I don't put myself first. I also have tons of work because we're short-staffed at the moment and I know that if I stay home the work is only going to pile up. Mostly, I think if I am not going to the Doctor and don't have a medical certificate that sort of proves that I am ill, staying home just makes me feel bad. I know it sounds ridiculous especially for me as I am an honest person and would never lie about sickness.
I'm actually starting to think perhaps it is work that is making me sick. I've been feeling stressed, drained, overworked and have to deal with different personalities, issues, conflicts, confrontations, traffic, hundreds of emails, calls and so on and so on and so on....
Now, I am wondering if all these burdens are making me ill?
I found an article that says:
Frequently people under the effects of over stress will have more colds and infections due to lowered immune system responses. Stress can initiate dermatological conditions such as itchy skin and rashes.Well I am still at work, trying to get better. Drinking my Viral Choice, Benylin for colds and drinking lots of orange juice and water. But I feel crap, don't feel like talking to anyone, don't want to take calls, slowly trying to clear all my emails and process a few short-code applications but I really just want to be home, sleeping, resting and taking it easy so I can recover and get back to work in full force.
If you wondering what the best decision is when you are sick, the experts say:
If you're not feeling great, do yourself and your co-workers a favor: Call in sick. You'll likely get better faster and save your employer money. Sick employees don't just affect their own work; they infect co-workers who then need to take time off themselves. (Or who come in sick and spread the germs further.) People don't want to stay home and add to their co-workers' workloads but it's not only about being kind to your co-workers. Staying home a day or two may shorten the illness.
