My hobby pays for itself BUT…..

…sometimes people don't play their part.

Do I have a small home-based business...NO, I don't. My pastime is card-making and my hobby is supposed to pay for itself and 9 times out of 10 it does. A hobby is an activity you pursue without expecting to make a profit. In essence, you do it because you like it, regardless of the cost. I provide a service, basically for free. I just expect that my supplies and materials expenses are covered. Isn't that a great deal! Some would say I'm crazy but yeah, I'm nice like that!

If you think about the hobbies some people have, they can cost a fortune. Golf balls and other gear, petrol in motor sport, cycling gear and accessories etc etc…mine on the other hand takes some of my time and requires the purchasing of papers and all other paraphernalia which end up costing me nothing because I usually get back the monies once I complete the order. It's like having a hobby but your house does not get cluttered with all the creations you have ever made. I get the satisfaction and joy out of conception, design and finishing my cards but I get rid of them eventually.

However, here's the big "BUT"… sometimes people think it's all right not to pay their money due to me. I did my bit, I charged you peanuts yet you don't pay me?!?!? I let it go because I am not fraught over your lack of payment and I'll never demean myself by pursuing the matter any further. Sadly, it does sort of ruin the good thing I had going. It actually ruined it for everyone else mostly. I am no longer "Mrs-nice-card-lady", no more will the words be uttered from my lips "pay me whenever", "don't worry you can give the money next time I see you". No, No, No…okay maybe only to some people that I am fond of and trust.

The bottom-line is YOU KNOW YOU OWE ME and it's no longer about the money but about ethics, morals and the principles behind it all.

All I can say is you can choose to do good or evil but all actions have a cause and effect so remember this word Karma.

The theory of Karma is common to many oriental religions. In its most popular form it states that there is a universal accounting system in which each individual must experience the consequences of all his actions (Karmas); good actions bring good results and bad actions inevitably result in suffering to the one who does them.

I choose to be the good person :)

Ps. Here's an interesting article I stumbled upon Home Based Businesses - Don't Let the Customers Get Away Without Paying!

for he owes not any man. "
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I think I understand your frustrations here. This is the exact reason why I stopped making invitations. Well, part of the reason why. I hate asking people for money. Why should you run after money that was originally yours anyway? People's love for free things clouds their judgment and they don't realise the time and effort that goes into creating the cards you make. Next time, tell them that you need the money beforehand to purchase supplies (even if you dont;)

Thanks :)

ai, I guess some people will never change...

So now I have to be stern which is so out of character but alas, it's the only way to not be used and abused...

I let Karma do her job and I got paid for my last order AND given extra :)

how you react is yours. ~Wayne Dyer
